You get stronger powers and they are good enough for the ppl around your lvl and then when you hit stronger opponents they are not as effective anymore.
Or else they would not need to lvl up anymore, just keep using the first skills they get.
I mean, there is a handful of anime that I’ve seen where the characters abilities are based around a game plan or a gimmick. Kind of like the skill-set of MOBA heros, and as the story progresses they change very little and instead change in which order the abilities are used or found more ways to utilize said gimmick.
BUT are any of those better than RMJI? Not even close. Honestly most of the China donghua are more interesting than what Japan is putting out lately.
