Battle Through the Heavens Season 5 manages to achieve something I didn’t think was possible: turning an action‑fantasy story into a painfully dull, logic‑defying mess. Tencent has taken a series with huge potential and flattened it into a shallow, child‑oriented production with almost no narrative coherence.
The characters are astonishingly uninteresting—flat personalities, zero development, and dialogue so poorly written it becomes unintentionally comedic. One moment a character declares, “I have never seen anyone survive the trial,” and seconds later warns, “Forcibly activating the strange fire will also hurt you.”
So… everyone dies anyway, but activating the fire is somehow the bigger concern? The writing contradicts itself so often that scenes lose all meaning.
The pacing is sluggish, the emotional beats fall flat, and the story feels like it’s stitched together without care or logic. Instead of tension or excitement, we get repetitive lines, empty threats, and exposition that goes nowhere.
Overall, this season feels careless, uninspired, and frustrating to watch. It’s a downgrade in every possible way, and a disappointing example of how a good franchise can be dragged down by weak writing and shallow production choices.

And if you think about it what is actually the point of this story and of Xiao Yan’s motivation to become a god from the start till now? Just so he could defeat his enemies for trying to steal for a way just to enter a Immortal’s home??? WTF would anyone else be able to reach the same as the Immortal just by breaking and entering into their house? And WTF is the MC’s whole point in this show, from start till the end he is just driven by revenge purpose, from the 3 year Engagement Breakoff revenge to his revenge on the Soul and Hun clans
Most novels are like this. It becomes repetitive, you level up yet your goal hasn’t been reached. It becomes stale in the end. There are a couple of novels who truly captivated the essence of cultivating, which is a mountain to climb, exploiting every opportunity. Among those are Renegade Immortal and RMJI. Against the Gods if given to life by this studio, is probably just as good. The current release of Against the Gods was a complete failure.
