This animation is adapted from the second part of the "Heaven's Shadow Trilogy," a work by the renowned author Chen Dong on the popular Chinese web novel platform Qidian. The second part is called "Perfect World." The protagonist was born for cultivation and destined to face tribulations. He transforms into countless blood raindrops, sprinkling over endless ages and undergoing countless trials across different dimensions of time and space. Through the baptism of the river of time, he transcends the ages and achieves ultimate freedom. Witness how the main character, Shi Hao, creates an extraordinary and legendary life.
Perfect World is basically a drunk fever dream masquerading as storytelling. The fights are flashy, the graphics are polished, but strip that away and you’re left with incoherent nonsense stitched together like a bad hallucination. Even my wasted dreams have more narrative logic than this mess.
@Pat Regardless not all donghua’s are gonna be written as masterpeices which are rare as fuck and I’ve accepted that I’m just here for the action and flashy fiights. Could give a fuck about being so selective now adays in any entertainment industry.
@Taint My criticism isn’t random hate—it’s deliberate. If we keep praising crap, producers will keep serving crap. Positive noise only rewards mediocrity. You can either sit in peace with whatever hollow spectacle comes out, or you can push back and influence the outcome. I choose the latter. Flashy fights don’t excuse incoherent storytelling, and I refuse to clap for nonsense 👎
I don’t watch most donghua because they’re beyond shit. But I was hooked on Perfect World from episode 1, back when it was actually good. So even if my criticism changes nothing, I’ll keep trying—because blind praise only guarantees more mediocrity
@Pat I am not a viewer from China so I know I have no influence on what the fuck they do with the donghua’s I understand where you are coming from. I don’t mind it but it’s just not my cup of tea. Whether I’m watching anime or donghua’s illegally I know I have 0 influence on what they do with the show or anything. But you do you Pat
Sure, most donghua viewers are in China—around 70–80%—but that still leaves a huge international audience. And considering China still attracts hundreds of billions in foreign investment (over CNY 445 billion into services alone in 2025), I can’t believe producers wouldn’t care about ratings outside China when their shows are spreading worldwide. My criticism isn’t just some outsider rant; plenty of Chinese fans on Bilibili and Tencent threads are frustrated too. I’m not alone in calling out the degrading quality—flashy fights can’t cover up hollow storytelling forever
I understand where you’re coming from but I’ve watched anime and donghua long enough that no matter what is said online. If a creator is unable to maintain quality over a entire series im not surprised and that is just on them / studio. I understand your critiques come from a good place but not every creator / studio will be able to maintain good writing I see it as par for the course. But you keep at it man have a good day Pat.
Real story telling is meaningless today a real plot would’nt fit in most peoples brains anyway and even if it would the attention span is much to low to appreciate it. (Don’t get it wrong, no agression meant, I am included). So I don’t mind flashy fights with little to non story plot.
Let’s fucking go Shi Hao’s master how dare yall fuck with MC get fucked
Holy shit yall the series is really picking up speed. Absolute Cinema!
