Complete nonsense. Soul Formation stage into mid-Soul Transformation and they throw in an attack? That’s not just bad pacing—it’s a fundamental misunderstanding of cultivation logic. Build Dream Studio is no better than Tencent Penguin Pictures, who seem to be directing this mess. It’s like they’re rushing through the most critical arcs without grasping the stakes or the spiritual depth.
What are you talking abt? It is as per the novel. Sima is only at Early Soul Transformation while WL is already at Late Soul Transformation, half a step into Ascendant. For the amount of chapters to cover, the pacing is just right. We do not need another One Piece kind of pacing where we need to wait 10 years to see the completion of WL’s story. And we still have 2 more Er Gen novels of Meng Hao from I Shall Seal The Heaven and Su Ming from The Pursuit of the Truth in the shared universe with WL, you wanna wait another 30 years…GTFO!
@Pat Honestly, I haven’t read the novel, so I speak in general terms regarding most cultivations novels. And yes, usually, challenging someone above your cultivation stage, is foolishness. But its only an estimation, and there are always exceptions.
* One, main characters always do it because of their unique cultivations or treasures.
* Two, good bloodlines, and disciples of top factions, can always defeat their peers from lower backgrounds, because of the far better techniques, foundations and treasures.
* Three, at the beginning, the arrogant dude didn’t know the MC’s cultivation because MC always hides it or suppress it. And the higher you are, the easier is to hide it from those below. Protagonists always love to play the pig to catch the tiger, looking weak on purpose, to give them false confidence and defeat them publicly in a grander manner.
* Four, several (unit or army) weaker cultivators, with the arrogance of being one mentioned above, can defeat a cultivator with higher cultivation but far weaker foundation and techniques. Numbers can win in many battles against stronger enemies. It’s game of balance. What nobody knows, is that the MC, despite being unknown, despite lacking any background of note, he can defeat stronger cultivators by himself.
So, even if this didn’t happen in the novel, it isn’t completely impossible to happen. If only cultivators of the same stage would challenge each other, it would become a bit boring and predictable.

This wasn’t the case before episode 99, when Tencent took over. Back then, I could watch each episode ten times and still enjoy it. Now, once is more than enough. Ask yourself — are the new episodes as exciting as before? The simple answer is no.
You also complained in the past about the pacing of A Record of a Mortal’s Journey to Immortality. For me, that series is now the best donghua, while Renegade Immortal has fallen to third place.
